Dentistry is constantly evolving. Like the transition from amalgam fillings to ceramic fillings, titanium implants are advancing towards ceramic implants. This advancement was inspired by the increase in demand for more bio-holistic and metal-free products, as well as the desire for a more aesthetically pleasing smile.

Ceramic implants are made out of a highly biocompatible material called zirconia. Zirconia has properties which allow it to adhere to bone rapidly and effectively, making the implant very stable. It is also highly resistant to scratching and corrosion, meaning it will last for many years. Ceramic implants are an especially good option for patients with thin gum as the implant itself is tooth color. Whereas with a titanium implant, the color of the metal may cast a gray shadow through the gum. Ceramic implants help make the smile more aesthetically pleasing because the color that shows through the gum is tooth color. Consult with your doctor to see which implant is best for you.
